Snowline & Laka Glacier Trek Above Triund

Triund is just the warm-up. Push another two hours up to Snowline and Laka Glacier for the biggest views of the trek.

Snow patches and rocky trail above Triund toward Laka Glacier

Most people stop at Triund and turn around. If you've got more in the legs, the trail keeps climbing — and the higher you go, the bigger it gets.

Snowline Cafe

From the Triund ridge, a rocky path climbs roughly 3 km (1.5–2 hours) to Snowline, named for the point where snow lingers late into the season. There's a simple tea shop here serving chai and Maggi — often the highest food on the mountain. The views back over Triund and across the valley are even wider than below.

Laka Glacier

Beyond Snowline lies Laka Glacier, a small glacier field that holds snow well into summer. The terrain turns to boulders and patchy ice; the air is noticeably thinner. This is the turnaround point for most day-trekkers.

Heads up

This is high-altitude, exposed terrain with fast-changing weather. Carry warm and windproof layers even in summer, watch for afternoon cloud, and don't continue onto snow or ice without proper footwear and, ideally, a guide.

How to do it

The smart way is to camp at Triund overnight, then push up to Snowline and Laka early the next morning when the weather is clearest, before descending all the way to Dharamkot. Doing the whole thing from the village in one day is possible only for very fit, fast trekkers.

Build your base knowledge with the Triund guide, and if you want a different high-mountain day, compare it with the Kareri Lake trek. More routes in the trekking & nature section or back to things to do in Dharamkot.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Snowline from Triund?

About 3 km and 1.5–2 hours of steady uphill from the Triund ridge. Laka Glacier is a little beyond Snowline.

Is the Snowline trek hard?

It's harder than Triund — higher, rockier and more exposed, with thinner air. It suits trekkers who already found Triund comfortable. There's a basic tea shop at Snowline but little else.
